The Ongoing Construction of a 1/48th Scale Airforce
Below you will find a listing of all the 1/48th scale model aircraft I have built over the years. I am also producing separate Weblogs featuring each individual model kit as well as my brief review of the build highlights and end result. Hopefully you will find the content informative, inspiring & entertaining. Feel free to post a note to me on social media featuring a model aircraft that you are working on or have constructed. There is a great community of model builders there who will support your projects long after your family gets bored of your obsession with aircraft. :) - Cheers

Lucky Strike: 1/48th Revell F-15E Strike Eagle
This Revell F-15E kit was released in 2000, and it is still one of their best kits. For a time this was THE kit to build for F-15 fans.

Thud the Hard Way: 1/48th Monogram F-105D Thunderchief (Conversion)
When Monogram released this kit F-105 kit in 82, it was impressive. Raised cockpit dials & switches, good ejection seats, recessed vents...

Dart Speed: 1/48th Monogram F-106A Delta Dart
Released back in 1983, Monogram offered model builders another great aircraft in their "Century Series" releases.

Ace of Spades Tomcat: 1/48th Monogram F-14A
The Monogram Tomcat has since been bested by other kits, however price considered, it still has a place in the market.

Tante Ju - 1/48th Monogram / Revell Ju 52/3m
This 1/48th Monogram / Revell kit is an excellent representation of this aircraft and despite it age builds up very well.

Dogs of War - 1/48th Revell F-86D Dog Sabre
The Revell-Monogram 1/48 F-86D is a gem. The kit builds into an early F-86D without the braking parachute. Fit of the parts is very good

Shark Toothed Snake - 1/48th Monogram AH-1F/S Cobra
If you want to build a 1/48th AH-1F/S, this is the only game in town (that I know of). First issued by Monogram 1986 this is an older kit

Lucky Shamrocks: 1/48th ESCI F-4J Phantom II
This ESCI F-4 kit is hard to recommend due to its deficiencies but you can make a good replica using this base

Phabulous Weasel Phantoms: 1/48th Hasegawa F-4G Phantom II
The Hasegawa F-4G is arguably the best offer of this 1/48th model kit at this time. It is nicely detailed and a decent build.

Phabulous Red Devil Phantom - 1/48th Monogram F-4J Phantom II
This time around my Monogram Phantom II was constructed in the markings of the USMC VMFA-232 "Red Devils"

Phabulous Wrap-Around Phantoms - 1/48th Italeri F-4E Phantom II
I will keep this one also brief as this 1/48th Italeri F-4E/G Phantom II kit is 1981 vintage and not very good at that...

Phabulous Warlord Phantoms: 1/48th ESCI F-4J Phantom II
The old ESCI/ERTL Phantoms do have some nice qualities about them, however the cockpit is a comparative disaster

Phabulous Lizard Phantoms - 1/48th Italeri F-4G Phantom II
Back in the early 1980's if you wanted to build a 1/48th scale F-4G, this was it. Lucky for you, there are now other much improved options.

Phabulous Phantoms - 1/48th Monogram F-4J Phantom II
Here is another Phantom kit of Monogram's produced back in the 80s. Still a respectable kit, despite the raised panel lines.

Biggin Hill, Kent 1942: 1/48th Tamiya Spitfire Mk. Vb
For a kit that is more than a quarter century old, the Tamiya 1/48th scale Spitfire Vb certainly holds up well.

Thunderbird Warhawk - 1/48th ARII P-40E Kittyhawk IA
The ARII/ Otaki P-40 may look alright at first glance, however it has shape issues, some of which are problems that cannot be fixed.

Desert Hurricane: 1/48th Hobbycraft Hurricane IIC
This kit was built from the old Hobbycraft kit and although not the best Hurricane kit, you can certainly produce a decent aircraft from it

Hell Island (Malta) Spitfire: 1/48th Tamiya Spitfire Mk.Vb
The Tamiya 1/48th scale Spitfire parts fit and engineering are still highly competitive although the kit came out over 25 years ago.
